A Treatise on the Magical Pendulum Archetype
"In the Magical Citadel of Endymion, Spell Counters are the currency of absolute power. The master magicians who inhabit this fortress accumulate magical energy with every spell cast, storing it in their citadel until the moment of release. When Endymion himself descends, he carries enough counters to negate and destroy anything that dares oppose his arcane supremacy."
This traditional backstory details the rigid, self-contained mechanical ecosystem built on placing Spell Counters to summon the ultimate boss, Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic.
"As a catastrophic war erupts against the Prophecy/Spellbook faction, Endymion plans to sacrifice his own son, Regulus—whose heritage grants him immense magical reserves—to fuel the Citadel's mana shields. Refusing this grim fate, the crown prince rebels and escapes the palace, aided by the runaway maids Verre, who uses her signature spell 'Dimension Magic' to break him out, and Genni, the Citadel's healer."
This OCG Stories manga storyline bridges the archetypes. Leaving the Citadel leads Genni and Verre to eventually found the independent Witchcrafter Guild, where Verre matures into Madame Verre.
The Endymion archetype is a highly complex and powerful Pendulum strategy centered on the generation and manipulation of Spell Counters. Its playstyle revolves around building an overwhelming board of spellcaster monsters that can place multiple negates and interruptions, creating a nearly unbreakable field. The deck is renowned for its high skill ceiling and its ability to convert simple spell activations into immense board presence, culminating in the summon of its formidable boss monster, Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic.
The entire Endymion strategy is fueled by Spell Counters. Every Spell Card activated becomes a resource, placing a counter on each face-up card that can hold one. These counters are then spent to activate the powerful effects of the Endymion monsters and to Special Summon them from the Pendulum Zone. Mastering the deck means mastering the flow of these counters, ensuring that every spell played contributes to the source of all magic and the eventual lockdown of the opponent.
The ultimate boss monster. Provides a powerful Spell/Trap negate and is immune to targeting and destruction while it has a Spell Counter.
A key combo enabler. Its Pendulum Effect can Special Summon itself and another monster from the deck, starting the main combo sequence.
A crucial extender and disruption piece. Can bounce cards on summon and is revived by Selene on the opponent's turn for interruption.
An extender that can Special Summon a monster from the Extra Deck or Pendulum Zone, enabling access to powerful generic monsters.
The deck's primary one-card starter. Searches for an Endymion monster and places a Spell Counter, beginning the resource loop.
The Field Spell that acts as a bank for Spell Counters, protecting them from removal and enabling explosive turns.
A continuous spell that searches for key "Mythical Beast" engine pieces and provides additional spell counter generation.
This walkthrough demonstrates how one card, Spell Power Mastery, can establish a board with multiple negates.
Activate Spell Power Mastery to search Servant of Endymion. Place Servant in the Pendulum Zone.
Activate another spell (like Upstart Goblin or another searcher) to place 3 Spell Counters on Servant. Use her effect to summon herself and Magister of Endymion from the deck.
Use your summoned monsters to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and then Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians. Use Selene's effect to revive a spellcaster (like Reflection), then Pendulum Summon Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic from the Extra Deck.
A typical, strong Endymion end board aims to layer multiple forms of interaction and negation.
Players new to the archetype often see "Endymion, the Crescent Magistus" and assume it belongs in the deck. This is incorrect.
Verdict: Do not play this card in an Endymion Pendulum deck. It is a "brick" that actively hinders your strategy.
With the release of the TCG set Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery, the Endymion strategy has broken free from its traditional, self-contained Pendulum and Spell Counter limits. In competitive play, the archetype has transitioned into an incredibly versatile, resource-positive Spellcaster Pile.
Rather than spending turns slowly building Spell Counters, this new wave introduces cards with inherent, chain-free Special Summoning conditions and powerful searching capabilities. By acting as a strategic bridge between the Endymion, Magistus, and Witchcrafter archetypes, this hybrid build solves the historical vulnerabilities of both decks: it eliminates Witchcrafter's devastating Normal Summon bottlenecks while granting Endymion unparalleled consistency and defensive adaptability.
The ultimate consistency anchor. Upon activation, it adds Regulus, the Prince of Endymion or any card mentioning it (such as Verre) directly from your Deck.
The engine's main combo facilitator. He Special Summons himself from the hand by revealing any other Spellcaster and paying a negligible Life Point cost (Level x 300).
Treats herself permanently as a "Witchcrafter" card. If you control any Spellcaster, you can Special Summon her from your hand without initiating a chain.
Also treated permanently as a "Witchcrafter" card. If any Spell card/effect was activated this turn, she Special Summons herself from the hand.
A highly modular, searchable disruption piece. If you control Regulus, it negates the activation of any opponent's Normal or Quick-Play Spell card.
Treated explicitly as both a "Magistus" and "Endymion" card, forging a perfect mechanical link between engines.
To maximize the mathematical probability of seeing starters without creating "garnets" (dead cards in hand), we recommend the following core ratios in a standard 40-card Endymion-Witchcrafter Pile:
| Card Name | Suggested Ratio | Strategic Role & Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| The Endymion Empire | 3x | The absolute primary starter. Unrestricted searcher that replaces itself instantly and enables go-second extensions. |
| Spell Power Mastery | 3x | Legacy searcher that now targets The Endymion Empire. Effectively acts as copies 4, 5, and 6 of your main starter. |
| Regulus, the Prince of Endymion | 2x - 3x | Primary combo enabler. Crucial for triggering search chains, though 2 copies are sufficient if running heavy search engines. |
| Verre, the Maid of Endymion | 2x - 3x | Offensive boss and Witchcrafter bridge. Essential for pulling backrow pieces and converting to fusion lines. |
| Genni, the Maid of Endymion | 1x - 2x | High-value extender and negate-dodging asset. Can be clunky if drawn without another Spellcaster to enable her summon. |
| Regulus' Arrow | 1x - 2x | Searchable quick-play negate and GY recovery tool. Multiple copies prevent "dead searches" in protracted grind games. |
| Magia Magic - Thunder of Judgment | 1x | High-impact removal and summon extender. Searchable in-engine, making one copy highly optimal. |
To unlock the full competitive power of the Endymion support wave, players must pair them with the concurrently released Revolution Booster: Toon / Witchcrafter / Unchained support cards, which solve Witchcrafter's historical hand-management issues:
The ultimate hand-fixing spell. If you would discard to activate a "Witchcrafter" monster effect, you can send a Witchcrafter Spell directly from your Deck to the GY instead!
Why it matters: Since Witchcrafter Spells naturally return to your hand during the End Phase, sending them directly from the Deck bypasses card disadvantage, yielding massive resource recursion loops.
Can tribute herself from hand/field to search any Witchcrafter Spell/Trap. If a face-up Witchcrafter leaves the field by opponent card effect while she is in the GY, she Special Summons herself and tributes 1 monster the opponent controls!
Why it matters: Tributing opponent monsters is the highest-value removal mechanic in Yu-Gi-Oh!, completely bypassing destruction and targeting immunities to easily dispatch otherwise invincible boss monsters.
This step-by-step walkthrough demonstrates how opening a single copy of Spell Power Mastery builds a quadruple-disruption board without consuming your Normal Summon!
Activate Spell Power Mastery from your hand. Resolve its effect to search your Deck and add the Continuous Spell The Endymion Empire to your hand.
Activate The Endymion Empire in your Spell & Trap Zone. Upon activation, trigger its effect to search your Deck for the key combo piece, Regulus, the Prince of Endymion, adding him to your hand.

Trigger Regulus, the Prince of Endymion in your hand. Reveal any other Spellcaster monster residing in your hand, pay Life Points equal to its Level multiplied by 300, and Special Summon Regulus. On summon, use his effect to search your Deck for Regulus' Arrow.
Because Spell Cards have been activated this turn (Mastery and Empire), the summon condition for Verre, the Maid of Endymion is met. Special Summon her from your hand. On Special Summon, trigger her effect to search your Deck for Witchcrafter Creation.
Activate Witchcrafter Creation to search your Deck for Witchcrafter Terracottan (from the Revolution Booster wave). Trigger Terracottan's hand effect: target the resolved Creation in your GY, return it to your hand, and Special Summon Terracottan to the field.
Activate Terracottan's field effect to perform a Fusion Summon. Fuse Witchcrafter Terracottan and Verre, the Maid of Endymion directly from your field to summon the powerful boss fusion monster, Witchcrafter Vice-Madame!
From a single Spell Power Mastery, you have established:
Beginner Guide Available
Advanced full combo line weaving together the Magistus, Spellbook, Witchcrafter, Sky Striker, and Mythical Beast engines. Not recommended for beginners — requires precise sequencing across 200+ steps. This is a specific draw loop variant of the deck, distinct from the standard Endymion line (which ends on multiple negates via Servant → Electrumite → Selene). The core of the draw loop: Royal Magical Library accumulates spell counters from each spell activation and cashes them in for free draws, while Wonder Wand draws 2 by sending itself and its equipped monster to the GY, and Pot of Avarice recycles monsters back into the deck for another two draws — each cycle fuelling the next until you have enough resources to establish the full end board with multiple Endymion bounce negates and set backrow.

While the Endymion core remains untouched, the archetype's High support reliance on key cards like Spell Power Mastery as the primary one-card starter, Servant of Endymion for combo enabling, and Magical Citadel of Endymion for Spell Counter banking. The deck requires precise sequencing of spell activations to generate enough counters for its plays. means restrictions on generic support cards do have an impact.
Meta Implications: Despite restrictions on support cards, Endymion's Moderate adaptability with the Mythical Beast engine providing alternative combo routes and the ability to use generic Spellcaster Link monsters like Selene and Heavymetalfoes Electrumite for board extension. The deck can pivot between aggressive Pendulum Summon strategies and control-oriented plays depending on the situation. allows the deck to remain viable with alternative tech choices.
